Selection of Non-Crop Plant Mixes Informed by Arthropod-Plant Network Analyses for Multiple Ecosystem Services Delivery Towards Ecological Intensification of Agriculture

چکیده

Ecological intensification (EI) of agriculture through the improvement ecosystem service delivery has recently emerged as alternative to conventional that is widely considered unsustainable and negative impacts on environment. Although tropical agricultural landscapes are still heterogeneous, they rapidly losing diversity due intensification. Restoration natural or semi-natural habitats, habitat diversity, provision multiple benefits have been identified important targets for transition EI. Choosing right plant mixes restoration habitats can offer therefore crucial. The selection candidate species generally informed by studies focusing a specific (e.g., pollination) not based whole arthropod—non-crop interactions matrix. In this study, we try identify non-crop would provide pollinators, act refugia pest predators, also trap crop potential pests studying plants—arthropod interaction network. We first identifying connector their centrality in network then how sequential exclusions affect stability

Ecological intensification: harnessing ecosystem services for food security.

Rising demands for agricultural products will increase pressure to further intensify crop production, while negative environmental impacts have to be minimized. Ecological intensification entails the environmentally friendly replacement of anthropogenic inputs and/or enhancement of crop productivity, by including regulating and supporting ecosystem services management in agricultural practices....

Farming for Ecosystem Services: An Ecological Approach to Production Agriculture.

A balanced assessment of ecosystem services provided by agriculture requires a systems-level socioecological understanding of related management practices at local to landscape scales. The results from 25 years of observation and experimentation at the Kellogg Biological Station long-term ecological research site reveal services that could be provided by intensive row-crop ecosystems. In additi...

Engineering a plant community to deliver multiple ecosystem services.

The sustainable delivery of multiple ecosystem services requires the management of functionally diverse biological communities. In an agricultural context, an emphasis on food production has often led to a loss of biodiversity to the detriment of other ecosystem services such as the maintenance of soil health and pest regulation. In scenarios where multiple species can be grown together, it may...
